Race Planning

butts

After reading todays Racing Post and the upcoming clash of Puppy Derbys at Wimbledon and Henlow in August, add into this the many open races that are nothing better than low graded races, and surely it points to our sports race planners to be looking at how best they can improve things.

I honestly feel that the “Kudos” that went with winning any open has totally gone and a few people are being lulled into a false sense of security with bitches that have an open win beside their name, do not get me wrong I am in no way saying that people should not breed from their bitch as everyone has the devine right to do whatever they so choose to, however I know for a fact that a few people have bred their bitch as it won an open and took it for granted that they would sell the pups no bother as they were from an Open winner, sadly they where left with a litter of pups that they could not sell and could not afford to rear either, this is when the trouble begins, I strongly believe that if that bitch had not won that sub standard open then that person would never have bred with their bitch and thus would not have suffered the stress involved with paying for a full litter of pups.

I would like to see some opens dropped and raise the bar with what opens would be left, make an Open win be for minimum £250, this would stop some promoters filling cards with sub standard open races, lets make winning an open a proud thing again.
With regards the clash of Puppy Derbys, whilst there is nothing that can be done thus far, I feel that rules shall be changed very quickly to allow the race planners the authority to refuse a date for a race, however the mere fact that Henlows proposed £10,000 to winner and total payout of over £12,500 was refused should be looked at very closely, why our governing bodies would refuse any proposed prize money is way beyond me and in this day were things are ever tough for owners to see prize money pushed away by our rulers is very disconcerting.

Open House

Questhouse Kennels has been a bit manic with many visitors in the last 2 weeks and it was nice seeing them interacting with the pups and the broods and overall having a bit of fun, hopefully they went away having enjoyed themselves.

The pups are all doing very, very well and coming on a treat, Jazz’s pups to Westmead Hawk were earmarked last week and dogs all tipped the scales at 11kg at 12 weeks old, very lively and full of it, new pictures are on their page.

The 2 sets of Premier Fantasy pups by Droopys Rosari and Millies Award continue to catch my eye, I really do like these pups and have a good feeling about them, everyone that visits are quite taken by the way they look, lets keep our fingers crossed, new pictures are on their respective pages.

Baby Marge has come in season and was initially going to Ballymac Maeve but due to Maeves popularity we where not guaranteed to get him when Marge was ready and thus I decided to re-route her to Frightful Flash Kennels and all being well she shall be mated to Hondo Black.
I have Baby Ells arriving next week after being mated to Savana Highlands and I pray to god that we can get 4 or 5 pups, Star(Savana) is enjoying his life in Ireland and being spoilt rotten to which I cannot thank Marie, Dave and Dav enough.
Very encouraging news regarding Jazz Hurricanes Droopys Kewell pups at the schooling track, after 2 handslips they had their first sprint out the boxes and Tom was more than happy.

I was very pleased to see Adios Amigo get dropped in grade at Hove and he duly ran well and will hopefully gain alot of confidence from this win, his brother Foulden Vieri had his first race in Clonmel last week and duly won in 29-25, he seemingly ran really well having made up 3-4 lengths on 1 of Pat Buckleys youngsters and his future looks bright, 1 of the other brothers was 2nd on the same card.
Recent winners are.

Quest for Wonder twice at Belle Vue, Bellpac Philly and Crooked Duke at Newcastle, English Rose twice and Adios Amigo at Hove, Good To Go at Wimbledon and Foulden Vieri at Clonmel
